A wedding day is a whirlwind of emotions, filled with laughter, tears, anticipation, and celebration. It's a day that's meticulously planned, from the smallest details to the grandest gestures. Each element of the wedding day contributes to the overall narrative and story.
When your wedding day finally arrives, you'll be a mix of nerves and excited anticipation. You might be too anxious to eat, or too excited to sleep. One things for sure is that you want an unforgettable experience.
Whether you've hired a magnificent castle or rustic barn, you'll want your day to run smoothly and for you to feel like you're a part of your own celebrations. It's so incredibly important to me that you feel present in the moment throughout your day, and it's this mantra that's the heart and soul of what I offer.

So what can you expect when you hire me for your day?
To provide such an immersive experience for my couples takes a little background work, including pre-planning sessions where I get to know your wedding timeline and make personalised suggestions that might improve your overall experience. I'll make an effort to learn and adapt to complicated family dynamics, and I'll ask you for your immediate family members & wedding party so that I can memorise their names & relationship to you. Why? Because this allows me to establish a real connection with your friends & family, which in turn means I can focus the camera on the people who matter most to you during the emotional moments of your day - such as reactions during the ceremony or speeches. It also means I can zoom through our group shot list so that you can get back to the party as soon as possible.
"Steph made us feel instantly at ease and excited for our wedding from our first consultation through every update meeting right to the day itself.
She got right into the fun of the day, taking part in all the inside jokes and made an effort to know everyone in the wedding party personally."
Every couple has heard how they'll day will "fly by" at least a hundred times since you announced your engagement. And whilst it's true that it can be over in a flash, with the right people looking out for you we can slow down time a little. In my time as a wedding photographer I've seen so many brides rush to get into their dress and then race downstairs to their ceremony without ever having the chance to feel like a bride. It's so incredibly important to savour every moment of your day. That's why I always suggest brides get into their dresses an hour before the ceremony - it means you get a real chance to feel special before you are reunited with your partner. By guiding you and your wedding party throughout the morning, you get to enjoy more of your day without feeling rushed or that you're forgetting something. You can just be totally immersed in all the joy and happiness.
My approach throughout your day is to be as unobtrusive as possible - blending into the background during candids, but equally guiding you through the day and helping you out whenever you need it. Whether it's fitting the boutonnieres, dabbing your flowers dry before you walk down the aisle or adapting your schedule with your coordinator to offer you more time when things are running late, I'm a photographer who has your back and wants you to have the best time of your lives. Equally, I'll let my presence be known and show assertiveness for group shots, and make sure everyone's on board with how to throw confetti and setup the sparklers, and I'll even show your guests the moves in a ceilidh dance!
Right, so what about the photography?
Well, to me, all of the above is part of wedding photography! But I'm sure you are keen to know my approach to taking photos of your special day.
Firstly, I like to keep my distance for the most part and use lenses that allow me to create stunning portraiture work without being in your personal space. Whilst gentle posing is often required, I use it as a guide rather than a strict rule and encourage you to play around in ways that are comfortable and feel more like you. I never like to linger too long in any position, and prefer to keep things fresh, moving and a little spontaneous & creative. We'll follow the light, and capture colour & beauty in the background of your images. I'm flexible throughout your day and always reserve time in the evening for second portraits for summertime weddings. To me, my favourite thing about photography is capturing your personalities on camera, everything from those knowing smiles to that glint of romance in your eye.
For candids, I'm always scanning the room looking for the best smiles, reaction shots and emotional moments. I keep a mental note of guests I haven't yet photographed, and endeavour to capture everyone equally. During your drinks reception, I'll make an effort to capture the groups you aren't nearby so that when you look on your photos you'll find new, never before seen moments that you missed on the day. For your evening reception and dancing, I like to get in amongst the action - very often setting up lighting that captures the atmosphere of your evening celebrations. So expect cracking photos of ceilidhs or raucous images if you've hired a rock band.
Another important thing is that unlike other wedding photographers, I no longer accept back to back weddings. The last thing my couples want is for me to experience burn out if they are my third wedding in a row that week. I want every couple to feel as special as can be and have my complete focus. That's why I only take on a limited number of weddings each year, so that I can provide the same level of excellent service to each and every single one of my gorgeous couples.
