When you're planning your wedding, you'll have so many questions about what is you should expect from your suppliers, how your day might run and what exactly you'll be paying for.
Wedding photography is no exception, and every wedding photographer will have their own policies - so here are some Frequently Asked Questions on the services I offer.
Q: Do you travel for weddings?
A: Absolutely!
I regularly travel for weddings - and I love exploring new parts of the country, as well as revisiting familiar wedding venues. All travel, including mileage and accommodation, is included in all my wedding photography packages. Some photographers do charge extra for this, but I like to keep things simple for my couples. If you'd like me to travel a little further, such as overseas or to one of the Islands, then a small additional travel cost will be applied to your booking but we'll discuss that well before you commit to booking. I'm all about transparency.
Q: Is 8hrs enough for a full day wedding?
A: Definitely.
Other photographers may state 10hrs, but that's inclusive of your 2hr wedding breakfast meal when no photos are being taken. My 8hr coverage is 8hrs of dedicated photography time. Usually that's enough for 2-3hrs morning prep coverage right the way through to the pre-dinner speeches, plus around 2hrs of evening coverage. You can split the time as you like though, so if you'd prefer more evening coverage, that's totally fine. I want you to be have coverage that works for you. It's also worth noting that if your day is running late, I'm never going to miss out on your first dance.
Q: Do you offer additional hours?
A: Yes.
Unless you are absolutely sure you'll need additional hours at the point of booking - such as you want sunset photos in summer (it's about 10pm around the solstice) - then I advise to hold off purchasing additional hours until you know you'll definitely need them. That might be 1 to 2 months before the big day, and we'll discuss about it in more detail during our planning sessions. Additional hours are charged at £200/hr.
Q: I'm on the fence about evening coverage?
A: Totally get it. No one wants 100+ drunk photos. But that's not what evening wedding photography is all about. To me, it's all about the relaxed, fun party. It's about action scenes, movement, banter. But there's a lot more to evening photography than just a ceilidh or dancing. We can grab the wedding party and do some sparkler shots, or I'll setup my lighting gear for some artistic off-camera flash portraits. And I will never not be up for some epic fireworks photos!
Q: Do you offer Wedding Albums?
A: Yes. Due to modern couples preference, I have chosen not to include a wedding album as standard in any of my packages. That's because many couples want the flexibility to add them on later. I have 2 album types on offer for you to choose from, with a whole range of personalisation options to truly make your album unique. I thoroughly recommend a wedding album. Digital images are beautiful, but there's something so wonderful about holding your own wedding photos in your hand - flicking through the pages with family in decades to come. Ask me for a brochure at any time!
Q: When will I receive my gallery?
A: My guideline is 6 to 8 weeks, with up to 8 weeks during the busy summer months. I'll always endeavour to deliver within these time periods, and I also offer priority editing which means you'll jump to the top of my editing queue and you'll have a full gallery delivered within 2 weeks. Just make sure you add this as soon as you can, as I schedule my editing during the summer very early on.
Q: How do I receive my images?
A: You'll receive your full gallery (which contains full res, watermark-free images) through an online password protected link. From there you can download all your images, view them online and you are free to share this link with your friends & family. Your online gallery is available indefinitely as well.
Q: Will my images be used in your portfolio & social media?
A: Whilst the copyright for your images remains with me (standard UK practice), I will always honour any requests to keep your images private. When I deliver your gallery, you'll have an opportunity to opt-out of portfolio & social media use. You can also limit the number of images I use, or make a special request for me to not use any images of children that were present at your wedding.
Q: How do I book you for my wedding?
A: I'm proud to have one of the simplest booking systems in Scotland integrated with my website. Just navigate over to pricing, select the package that's right for you and hit the Request Booking option. Once I've accepted the booking, a Client Portal will be created for you and you'll receive the Contract and link to make payment on the deposit fee within. Your booking is managed through this portal, so any change you'd like to make can be done through here.
I require a £400 deposit to secure your date. The balance is payable 6 weeks before your wedding date and you'll be emailed automatically when it's due. You are also welcome to make payment contributions of any amount beforehand, and you can do so via the Client Portal link that is created for you on booking.
Q: What happens if you can't make my wedding?
A: It's not happened yet, but I have a process in place for if I'm ill or otherwise no longer able to make your wedding. I will notify you at the earliest possible time and give two options. Either I book you a replacement photographer at no extra cost, or I offer you a full refund including deposit so that you can make arrangements yourself.
Q: Do I need to feed you?
A: No.
Whilst I really appreciate a hot meal during a wedding, I never want to put my couples under pressure to provide me a meal. I'm also very happy to bring a sandwich, or even power through without a meal. If you'd like to provide a meal for me, I'd be very grateful. I'm a strict vegetarian, and if you haven't read this page I'll remind you when you ask me about it.
Q: Do I need to provide a shot list?
A: Yes and no.
For group shots you'd like, it's absolutely essential. I would hate to miss a combination that you really wanted - and that's why I have created a super easy group shot form you can fill out. All you need to do is select the most popular choices, and then there's opportunity to request bespoke combinations. As for anything else? I know exactly what to photograph during weddings - so I already have a checklist that I work towards capturing. We'll discuss things like First Looks and any other specific photos during our planning calls as well.
Q: What happens if I don't like the edit?
A: Tell me ASAP.
Firstly, if you are looking for bright, light, airy & de-saturated images, you've come to the wrong place. Same if you are looking for direct flash and super posed images. My style of photography incorporates my editing style as well. That said, I'm more than happy to edit and tweak your gallery. If you don't immediately love your gallery, I'll want to make sure in a re-edit that you do. Let me know as soon as possible if you want a re-edit - I advise within 7 days of your gallery delivery so that I can re-prioritize my workload to ensure your gallery is delivered as soon as possible.
It's worth noting that because I'm a colourful wedding photographer, that sometimes on some screens my images may appear more saturated than they actually are. Your choice of screen can hugely influence the colours displayed in your images. I edit on a colour-accurate monitor which balances out the hyper-saturation of many displays. Default settings on TVs and laptops can often be on the over-saturated side. Even when printing, professional shops use colour correction techniques as the same shade can look significantly different depending on the paper it's printed on.
